If you are a teacher or prospective teacher, a number of these resources may be helpful. Take a look at the general teaching links, books, periodicals, and films to gain additional insight into the teaching profession.

Organizational Links

General Teaching

The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education lists all of the accredited colleges of teacher education, and provides other helpful resources to individuals interested in attending a teacher education program.

The Web site of the American Federation of Teachers, the nation’s second largest teacher union, highlights many of its activities and research studies.

The National Commission on Teaching and America’s Future (NCTAF) has, over the past five years, produced many important studies examining the link between teaching and student performance.

The National Education Association, the nation’s largest teacher union, has 2.5 million members and a large network of activities to help teachers and education professionals.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Teacher Quality page details the federal government’s plan to enhance the nation’s teaching workforce.

Linguistic & Cultural Diversity

The Center for Research on Education, Diversity and Excellence (CREDE) focuses on critical issues in the education of linguistic and cultural minority students and those placed at risk by factors of race, poverty, and geographic location.

The National Clearinghouse for Bilingual Education is funded by the U.S. Department of Education to collect, analyze, and disseminate information relating to the effective education of linguistically and culturally diverse learners in the U.S.

Special Education

The Council for Exceptional Children is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted.

The National Clearinghouse for Professions in Special Education, a project of the Council for Exceptional Children, works to enhance the nation’s capacity to recruit, train, and keep teachers of children with disabilities.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services funds over 1,200 programs for special education and tracks special education programs in the nation’s public schools.
